archaic futures pull me in
they ask what will become
of their fossils

how did they live and breathe
in the place they occupied?

did they appreciate its sustenance
did they hear its soul and respond in a joyous cry?

they wonder where
the fossils’ minds met
the sky meeting the sea
meeting the earth in between
soil in pores on grass in fields

did they feel it?

there is a soulwind that permeates us
shapes a trail down mind-body
and asks us to walk that path
or you may simply view it and imagine
they say
it does not matter, we will be gone one day

but the birds know it
they sing of it
in their embodied sounds of solace and pleas

they remember the sound of soilmachine
of vibratory mother
they are her halo
and she their nest

what would it mean
to fly?

they sing
of reflections past of future self
present in mind, but its body lacks presence

we can know only echoes
know only ghostbodies
trails of memory through powerlines
and branches and currents

may we fly and remember with them.
